X Mile Raises US$20 Million to Build the Operating Backbone for Japan's Non-Desk Industries
Vertex Holdings05 Aug 2026As labour shortages deepen across logistics, construction and manufacturing, X Mile is betting that data and vertical AI, not headcount, will keep Japan's non-desk economy running.
Japan's non-desk industries, logistics, construction and manufacturing, are the sectors that keep the country physically moving, yet they face some of its most acute structural pressures. An ageing workforce, a shrinking labour pool and looming succession gaps at small and mid-sized operators are colliding with rising demand for efficiency. Software has been slow to reach these industries, and the people managing them have had few tools built for how they actually work.
X Mile, a Tokyo-based platform founded in 2019, set out to change that. It began as a staffing service matching workers to employers in labour-short sectors, and has since grown into a broader management platform spanning industry-specific software, vertical AI tools, M&A advisory and vehicle sales. The company now serves more than 1.2 million registered job seekers and over 30,000 client business locations, with its DX platform for transportation and logistics operators growing annual recurring revenue more than 90% year-on-year.
"These industries are on the brink of major structural change, facing severe labour shortages, an ageing workforce, and business succession challenges," said Hiroyuki Noro, Representative Director and CEO of X Mile. "With this funding, we will invest further in vertical AI, expand our M&A and business-support capabilities, and deepen partnerships with major corporations as we build toward becoming the core management infrastructure for non-desk industries."
That ambition reflects a broader shift underway in Japan's industrial base. As automation and AI mature, companies with proprietary operational data, not just software, are best positioned to redesign how work gets managed in traditionally under-digitised sectors. X Mile's years of matching data across candidates, employers and vacancies give it a foundation few software-only entrants can replicate.
Vertex's perspective
X Mile has now raised JPY 3.17 billion (over USD 20 million) in a Series C round led by Vertex Growth, taking its total funding to date to JPY 6.96 billion (over USD 44 million).
"We were particularly drawn to X Mile's expansion from its proven staffing model in transportation into construction and manufacturing, evolving into a platform that serves multiple non-desk industries," said Tam Hock Chuan, General Partner at Vertex Growth. "We believe X Mile's business model, combined with its valuable data from successfully matching candidates with vacancies, positions the company to deliver even greater value to customers through automation and AI."
With the new capital, X Mile plans to deepen investment in its vertical AI product line and pursue acquisitions that bring in complementary products and teams, continuing its evolution from a single-industry staffing platform into infrastructure for Japan's broader non-desk economy.
