Advancing oral medicines for autoimmune disease: Matchpoint Therapeutics closes US$150 million Series B
Vertex Holdings13 Oct 2026Matchpoint Therapeutics will use the financing to take its lead oral T cell modulator, MPT-062, towards clinical proof-of-concept.
Many of the most established advanced treatments for immune-mediated conditions are biologics, which are typically given by injection or infusion. An effective oral alternative has long been an objective for drug developers, but it depends on reaching biological targets that conventional small molecules have struggled to address.
This is the challenge Matchpoint Therapeutics, a Massachusetts-based biotech, is working on. The company has closed a US$150 million Series B financing to advance its pipeline of first-in-class oral small molecules for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
Matchpoint’s approach centres on covalent chemistry. Its platform brings together chemical biology, covalent chemistry, structure-based drug design and computational sciences to design small molecules that bind tightly to biologically validated targets, many of which have historically been difficult to target with medicines.
The proceeds will support the progression of the company’s lead asset, MPT-062, to clinical proof-of-concept. MPT-062 is an oral, first-in-class T cell modulator designed to address the overactivation of T cells that drives disease. Clinical development is expected to begin in 2027. The financing will also support the wider pipeline.
Matchpoint’s platform has also drawn interest from a large pharmaceutical partner. Under a collaboration signed in July 2025, Matchpoint granted Novartis an exclusive option to license an oral programme targeting an inflammatory disease pathway. Matchpoint is eligible to receive up to US$60 million in upfront and research funding, and up to US$1 billion in potential total payments. The company continues to progress this programme alongside its own pipeline.
CEO Andre Turenne said the financing reflects the company’s significant progress in discovering differentiated oral therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
“This Series B financing reflects our substantial progress in the discovery of differentiated first-in-class oral therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. We are deeply grateful to our new and existing investors for their support as we advance MPT-062 into clinical development and progress our other innovative programs.”
